The power of the feeding branch

In nature, birds spend a large part of their day searching, processing and obtaining food. A feeding branch is a simple but powerful way to provide natural food in captivity.

One principle is central to us: a bird that is allowed to work for its food lives a healthier, happier and more natural life.
In nature, birds spend a large part of their day searching, processing and obtaining food. They climb, clamber, pull, tear and think. In captivity they are often simply offered their food in a bowl. That's easy, but it doesn't do justice to their natural behavior and needs.

The power of the feeding branch.
A feeding branch is a simple but powerful way to offer natural food. By processing food into branches, bark or other natural materials, we encourage birds to be active. They have to pick, demolish, search and discover. Just as they would do in nature.

This has several advantages:

  • More exercise: Climbing, hanging and balancing while foraging strengthens muscles and coordination.
  • Mental challenge: Solving small feeding puzzles appeals to their intelligence.
  • Less boredom and problem behavior: A busy bird is a satisfied bird.
  • Natural behavior: Foraging is not an afterthought, but a basic need.

Intelligence requires a challenge.
Many bird species are exceptionally intelligent. Without challenge, frustration and behavioral problems can arise. By not offering food passively, but processing it in enrichment material, we give their brains something to do. This increases self-confidence, curiosity and well-being.

Are you curious about how that works? Then watch the video below.
